Burnt out Star?
Here we have a candidate for one of the weirder where are they now? stories.Remember Stan Campbell, the lead vox of the second incarnation of The Special AKA?Stan was the replacement for Terry Hall but apart from being moody, thats where the resemblance ends.Stan was a troubled character who joined the band in 1983 to make it rich and famous but his plans were thwarted by lack of commercial success for the Special AKA.In fact,he left the group after the recording of the hit"Nelson Mandela"and had to be co-erced into rejoining briefly for the bands appearances on Top Of The Pops

He left for good, missing out on a live appearance on Channel4's "The Tube",where his voice was replaced by Elvis Costello. He then had a try at solo work releasing 2 albums and a single but to no avail. His mental health began to take a turn for the worse and whilst in London, was involved in a couple of sexual harassment cases. He returned to Coventry where his mental health spiralled out of control and he began to sleep rough. He became a quirky character around the town, telling anyone who wanted to listen(or didnt want to listen) that he was once in The Specials. He was then arrested for his involvement in a sex crime against a woman he had followed around, and then was convicted of
kidnap and sexual accosting of a young girl he had met in an newsagents .He followed her, abducted her, took her down to a railway line and attempted to rape her but she managed to get away.Police had a big dossier on Campbell, who for some reason had an underlying hatred of women.Stan was sent to a secure psychiatric hospital indefinitely.Stan may not have set the world alight but he did grace the 2Tone label and appeared on yet another 2Tone milestone. Its just a sorry tale of a man who had tried to take his 15 minutes of fame but unfortunately for him, just didnt pay off.
OOhhhh.....SUITS YOU,SIR.............
One Michael Barson aka Monsieur Barso, the imagination behind North London's finest MADNESS has to fork out more dosh on a new black suit since the theft of his original after the Dublin Castle gigs with the nutty boys parading as 'The Danger Men'.Barso left it in the changing room after the gig and when he he went to collect it-...gone!.He is appealing for the 'enthusiastic would-be fan'to return it!
